You can’t really have favourites in this line of work, everyone is loved equally and generously of course, but if push came to shove I would, I think, if asked, lean Mila’s way. The reason for this isn’t necessarily something I can easily put into words, she just would be. There’s something about her quietness, as opposed to the quietness of other cats, her smallness, her timidity, her sweetness, that plucks more vigorously at the lyre of my heart. Maybe it’s how fearful she was when she first came to us – having been abandoned – and how she has grown during the intervening weeks. We’ve been able to watch as her doubt turned into faith. Now, she is just wonderful. As endearing as she is affectionate. Favourites? Don’t tell the others but she’d be mine.
